Big G8 Sea Security Drill

Date Posted: 2000-05-19

Ships from the 11th Maritime Safety Agency yesterday practised a security drill in the waters off Nago, outside the venue of the G8 Summit.

The fleet of patrol boats from the Naha based unit was supplemented by Shikishima Maru of the 3rd Maritime Safety Agency, the largest helicopter mother ship in the MSA fleet. Besides the ships, helicopters and other aircraft took part in the exercise.

The drill was the largest since the announcement of the venue of the Summit. As a part of the exercise, the MSA for the first time tested their new shallow draft speed boats, capable of speeds in excess of 45 knots.
