Clinton May Go To Mourn PM

Date Posted: 2000-05-19

President Bill Clinton is considering attending the memorial service of former Prime Minister Keizo Obuchi, scheduled for June 8. The service will be held at Nihon Budokan stadium in Tokyo.

Okinawa Governor Keiichi Inamine is also scheduled to attend. The planned service is raising the ire of some representatives of opposition parties who accuse the ruling Liberal Democratic Party of trying to use the occasion to boost its chances in the coming parliamentarian election. The election is scheduled for June 25.
