Newly Discovered Bones Are AmericanDate Posted: 2000-05-05 According to the police report, there had been rumors of three American soldiers who had entered a village in the area and been killed and buried by the villagers in 1945. The villagers kept the secret for 55 years until reports showed up in the U.S. military records about three men missing in action during the battle of Okinawa. The U.S. authorities then contacted Okinawa Prefecture and a subsequent investigation lead to the discovery of the remains. The forensic examination by the University of the Ryukyus and the U.S. military forensic center in Hawaii confirmed that the remains were those of Americans. |
