Officials at Onna Village are taking steps to ensure that gangster-related construction businesses do not get public works contracts in the village. To this end, Onna Mayor Hideki Oshiro has made an agreement with Ishikawa Police Station to gain access to information from the police. The mayor’s office vows to stop the work on any construction project that has been found to involve a company that has ties to gangsters, or whose officials engage in bribery or intimidation of competitors. The Mayor has the power to stop the project even after the work has begun. The Mayor aso plans to prohibit such companies from placing bids for public work projects.
