Island’s First Female Firefighting Student

The first female student ever, entered Okinawa Prefecture Firefighting School in Nakagusuku Village, yesterday. Yoko Maehira, 28, became the first student in the school’s 28-year history to study firefighting and rescue techniques. Taketoshi Onaga, Vice Principal of the Firefighting School said “I’m very impressed that we’ve finally got a female student in our school.” Maehira, confident she is up to the task, said “I have always loved taking part in competitive sports and love hard physical work. I will have no problem taking this course.”
