Naha citizens air views, grill officials on municipal policy

The Naha City Assembly held a special session for ordinary citizens on Feb. 6 to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the establishment of the city, with the goal of airing public opinion on municipal policy. Forty-three citizens of various ages participated, expressing their thoughts and directing questions at Mayor Takeshi Onaga and other city officials. Citizens posed queries concerning the garbage problem, the city’s response to incidents occurring at the city’s Coming-of-Age Day ceremony in January and about the municipal education system. The assembly adjourned after adopting a resolution announcing plans to make the city environmentally friendly.
