Okinawa Prefecture has added a market place to its website to buy and sell land. Currently, the prefecture has 1,775 parcels of land for sale at various locations, and those willing to buy can now place their bids to the prefecture directly through the internet. The land sites include former schools and farming research stations. The prefecture has also created a special section in the administration tasked to sell its land. Officials say that they plan to auction some of the land on-line. They stress that the ownership is not limited to local residents, and anyone is eligible to buy.
