Okinawa Governor Urged Only to Talk on Base Closure With New US President

Okinawa Governor Keiichi Inamine is planning to visit the US some time after the Okinawa G8 Summit in order to press his campaign promise to limit the use of the new Henoko heliport to 15 years. The US side has made it clear that any such time limit is unacceptable considering that there is no way to predict the situation in future. However, many of his supporters urge the governor to postpone his visit to sometime next year, after the US presidential elections and the new administration in the US takes office. They also point out that there are many local elections in Okinawa this year, and also a national election of the Diet or Japanese parlament.
