Three years for rape demanded for airman

Date Posted: 2002-02-15

In the Naha District Court final public trial on February 12 for Timothy Woodland, an American accused of raping a woman in Mihama, Chatan town last June, prosecutors demanded three yearsí imprisonment for the accused. They said it was a horrible crime generated by a temporary sexual desire, which makes this worth a jail sentence. The defendantís final pleading was rescheduled on February 21 because the trialís time limit ran out. At this final trial, Woodland will make a final statement and the hearing will be closed. Judgement is scheduled for March. After the court session was closed, defendants said that the victimís testimony cannot be trusted as it does not make sense and showed their intention to make a final statement proving the innocence through the trial.
