Spring Here, Beach Size Doubled, Jellyfish Excluded

Date Posted: 2000-04-08

Spring is officially here now that the beaches in the Okinawa main island are open. A ceremony was held Sunday at a reconstructed beach in Naminoue, Naha City. Naha Mayor Kousei Oyadomari attended the ceremony. During his speech he spoke of this year’s extraordinarily rainy weather but said that he was certain that there lies plenty of sunny days ahead. “I wish everyone, local residents and visitors alike, can enjoy this beautiful beach to the fullest,” the mayor said.

Naminoue Beach is located in the middle of Naha City and is very popular with both tourists and residents. The beach area has been expanded to double its former size. New showers and locker rooms have also been added, as well as a protective net, to prevent jellyfish entering the swimming area.
