Okinawa Swimmers are Champs in Pacific Rim

Date Posted: 2000-04-01

To race other swimmers from across the Pacific Rim, 21 qualifiers from the MCCS Semper Fit Okinawa Dolphins Swim Team traveled to St. Mary’s International School in Tokyo, March 10-13, for the 2000 Junior Olympics. When it was over, the results placed the team first in the military division and 7th overall.

The swimmers have been practicing since October to achieve the tough qualifying standards for this Pacific Rim age group championship event. Besides 22 team records and multiple season and life time best performances, highlights included 18 year-old Juliet Stern earning the high point award for girls and 17 year-old Greg Grubbs finishing fourth in the boys division.
