Conference Held to Biscuss Bad Smells of Naha Incinerator.

Date Posted: 2000-03-25

Last Saturday, March 18th, at the Haebaru community center, citizens living around the local incinerator held a “First Haebaru Garbage Conference.” The meeting was aimed at finding solution to several problems caused by several decades of bad sewage odors, and to inform the citizens about the pollution around the incinerator. Attendants discussed the bad smell and leaking sewage that has lasted for more than thirty years. Some of them insisted, “We cannot have any trustful relationship as long as the Pollution Protection Agreement is ignored.” A deputy mayor, Tomomitsu Takayama admitted their negligence of the agreement and apologized to the citizens. He also said that the city would do its best in order to rebuild a relationship of trust between the city and the citizens. One of the panelists, Katamasa Nakaza said that he hoped “all the citizens who produce garbage take this problem as as a serious one concerning each of them personally.”
