Green Tea Cultivation Season Starts in Nago

Date Posted: 2000-03-25

The first cultivation of tealeaves has started in Nago. The first tealeaves cultivated in the year are called “Ichibancha” in Japanese, and have been treasured for a long time all over Japan, including in Okinawa. This spring season is called “Urizun” in Okinawan dialect. Takeshi Higa, who has a tea farm in Isagawa, Nago, cultivated 400 kilograms on Monday the 20th with five other workers. Because of the long rainy season this year, cultivation had been delayed. However, Mr. Higa said he has confidence in the quality of the tea he planted. The tea is going to be sold in and out of Okinawa. The tea season will also be coming to Kunigami village very soon.
