Please, Help Me Locate this Loving Person

Date Posted: 2000-03-25

My father fought on Iwo Jima from February 19th, 1945 to March 2nd, 1945. He was in the US Marine Corps, a BAR man from the 5th Division, 28th Regiment,

1st Battalion, Company A. Shortly after the conquest of Mt. Suribachi on February 24, 1945, Company A began working their way north along with west coast of Iwo Jima. On March 2nd, 1945, while advancing from Hill 362A to Nishi Ridge, my father was hit in the eye by a shell fragment.

During the battle on Iwo Jima, somewhere between Mt. Suribachi and Hill 362A, my father acquired the belt, bayonet, scabbard, and satchel from a Japanese soldier. In the satchel was a beautiful (but worn) photograph of a Japanese lady.

I would like to try to find this person or her family, in hopes that I may

be able to return these items to the soldiers' loved ones. I have scanned the photograph, and am attaching a copy. I apologize for the poor quality, but think you may be able to enhance it and come up with a better image. Thank you very much for your consideration and assistance.

Best regards,

Bill
