KHS to Host Far East Model United NationsDate Posted: 2000-03-25 The Model United Nations is an annual conference that brings together sixteen schools from mainland Japan, Korean, Okinawa and Guam. All DoDDS and Guam high schools, the Korean Christian Academy, JFK High School, Guam and the Japanese Kyuoyo High School of Okinawa are involved in this year’s session, with approximately 200 students acting as delegates, security guards, anti-terrorist forces, pages, reporters and secretaries. The purpose of the Model United Nations is to make students aware of world issues through research and discussion. This year, they will be tackling issues such as the protection of newly formed democracies, the application of the convention on the prevention and punishment of genocide, and the use of satellites and space technology as weapons.
