Date Posted: 2000-03-25

Would like to “Salsa” or do the “Merengue” all night till you can dance no more? Are you ready to “Latin rumble?” Well, here is the opportunity for you to do these and other Latin dance music styles.

The Okinawa Hispanic American Association, a private nonprofit organization, will be hosting its first "Salsarengue Marathon 2000" contest at the Globe and Anchor Club on Camp Foster on Friday March 31st, starting at 9:00 p.m. This event is open to all ranks and civilians. There will be $100.00 first place cash prize and a trophy for the last person standing on the dance floor. There will be also a second and a third place prize ($75.00 and $50.00 gift certificate respectively) and a trophy as well.

Registration for dance marathon participants will occur at the event. Dance marathon rules will be given at the event as well. Ticket cost is $8.00 per person and will include a buffet style meal. The buffet will run from 9:00 PM until 12:00 AM. The dance will continue until those that are the “Latin cream of the crop” are standing last. Part of the proceeds will go towards two school scholarships and planned charitable events.
