On May 14th, at 2:00 p.m., there will be an opening ceremony for the International Shinryo Hall, a construction meant to serve as a meeting hall for the Okinawa G8 Summit. About 200 people have been invited to this ceremony, including the Prime Minister of Japan, Keizo Obuchi; the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yohei Kono, other cabinet ministers and guests from G8 countries. During the ceremony, there will be a speech by Okinawa Prefectural Governor, Keiichi Inamine; followed by a tape-cutting ceremony, and performance of Okinawan traditional dancing, especially the very popular Eisa. A banquet will be held later at the Busena Terrace Beach Resort. The construction of Shinryo Hall started in June last year. It cost 2.1 billion. The construction of the conference building, the lounge building, and the reception building is nearly finished. Outside parking lot and gardens need more adjustment. The Prime Minister is going to inspect the facilities. After the Summit, International Shinryo Hall is going to be open for citizens in Okinawa.
