Mini-Portrait of a Gifted ArtistDate Posted: 2000-03-17 ![]() ![]() ![]() Marco was influenced by artistic legends Salvador Dali, the surrealist and M.C. Escher, the master of illusion. Those great artists' perspectives of life, as portrayed in their works, helped Marco focus on how he could display his own perceptions with a twist. Japanese animated movies such as “Ghost in a Shell” and “Akira” also helped mold his drawing style. According to Marco, the industrial flavors the movies portray provide an uncanny view of technology and tradition. Marco finds motivation from sources like music and entertainment, but his major strength lies in the fact that he is encouraged to draw by his family. His mother, an artist, bought Marco his first Prisma drawing markers in 9th Grade. Shortly after, Marco remembers, he completed his first drawing and it to his mother in appreciation of her support. He enjoys drowning his soul in “Trip Hop” and “Hip-Hop” music, while allowing the rhythm to draw a picture in his mind. The music of DJ Honda and DJ Crush help give him a feel on how to flow through his next drawing. Their mix in styles reminds Marco to keep his drawings diverse and varied. He has added his mix to advertising, designing advertisements for businesses such as Gate 1 DoCoMo and MOMO 2000. These establishments gave Marco an opportunity to display his artistic talent of to Okinawa and the military community. |
