Yoshihachi Extends its Sushi Menu to Over 200 ItemsBy: "Grand Chef" Keizo Nakasone Date Posted: 2000-03-10 ![]() ![]() Yoshihachi owner Yoshi Maekawa said that he is aiming at satisfying each of his customers who walk in through his doors. “We have had groups of customers in the past with one of them not liking raw fish in our traditional sushi sets. Now we can tailor the set to the tastes of each customer.” He went on to explain that, for the same reason, he has developed many new sushi varieties. “We have sushi in which we have replaced the raw fish with chicken or meat, and by using typical local spices, it still has the Okinawan taste,” Maekawa explains. Maekawa also guarantees that the quality has remained the same, while the quantity has increased. “We always use only the freshest ingredients that we buy from the market daily,” he explains. Yoshihachi’s interior is a story in itself. There are many memento’s from the days when Maekawa was running a sushi restaurant in Hollywood. Some of the most appreciated features, at least by American customers, are the wells for feet under low tables where one can stretch one’s feet while still sitting on traditional tatami mats. The prices are very reasonable. Small dishes range from ¥250 up, and sets are just a bit over ¥1,000. Draft beer sells for ¥400 per 500cc mug which is slightly less than most. Yoshihachi’s opens a bit earlier than most of the sushi restaurants on the island. Operating hours are from 4:30 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. daily, except Tuesdays. DIRECTIONS: Take Hwy 28 from Kadena Gate 2 towards Hwy 58. After passing the OkiMart convenience store on the right, there is a blue pedestrian overpass. Turn left there and Yoshihachi is on the right after about 300 meters from the turn. |
