Date Posted: 2000-03-10

If the Okinawa Meteorological Bureau has it right, this year’s exceptionally rainy weather will continue into the foreseeable future. Officials explain the reason for the phenomenon this way: Okinawa has been caught in between two stagnant high pressure fronts. They add that the fronts are unlikely to move anytime soon, and predict that the rains will continue for at least another month.

Officials at the Meteorological Bureau recently said that they can predict the weather only one month ahead; they cannot predict what is going to happen after mid-April. However, they pointed out that the monsoon season is also just around the corner.

The annual rainy season will start normally around May 10th, and continue for another month. Since there’s not much the weathermen can do about the situation, they are asking the public understand that they are only the messengers of the news, this time mostly bad.
