Replica of Clinton’s Birthplace Planned in Nago

Date Posted: 2000-03-10

In spite of the scandals that have plagued his tenure of office, U.S. President Bill Clinton still seems to have some staunch supporters in Japan. A real-estate agent has unveiled plans to construct a replica of the house where President Clinton used to live until he was five years old. The house itself was originally built in 1917.

The house was bought by a group of local Clinton admirers and turned into a tourist attraction. The Japanese realtor has copied the house to the smallest detail - wallpapers and furniture included. He plans to bring the prefabricated house to Nago in June. The grand opening is scheduled for July. He says a delegation from Arkansas will attend the event.

The realtor believes that there are enough tourists who would want to see the house for a fee, hence making it a viable business.
