Okinawa Electric Co. Donates ¥35 Million to SummitDate Posted: 2000-03-10 Officials at the Okinawa Summit Promotion Citizens’ Council that handles such donations said that they have so far received a total of ¥86 million in donations from 194 companies, still far from their target of ¥350 million. Prefecture officials are hoping to raise the money in order to alleviate the crunch that hosting the summit is putting on the prefecture’s budget. Receiving the money, Governor Inamine stated, “We appreciate greatly these donations. Okinawa Electric Co. group of companies is setting a good example and this money will be of great help top us.” Inamine went on to explain that this particular donation would go towards landscaping roadsides, volunteer workers’ allowances and general maintenance. Okinawa Electric Co. is also sending a staff of three to help with preparing for the summit. |
