Some restaurants in Okinawa are reputed just for the exquisite cuisine that’s theirs; but others are known to bring much more than the pleasures of a good dish. Good food in large quantities, coupled with great personal service, seems to be the forte of one restaurant situated not far from the Futenma US Marines heliport facility.

The Bambohe, as it is called, cannot be missed. Its flamboyant signboard welcomes diners of all nationalities and tastes everyday. The restaurant specializes in “Yakiniku,” or grilled beef, served with a variety of vegetables. Yakiniku is very popular all over Japan, and is prepared in several different ways. At the Bambohe, where the lunch and dinner buffet formula favors many people who like eating a lot of food at one time, Yakiniku has been the delight of all. On the menu, there is a wide variety of meats - beef, pork and chicken.

Lunch set is served at the price of •1028 for adults and •682 for kids below 12 years of age. For dinner, there is a cute price discrimination between men and women (•1,732 for the men and •1,575 for the ladies). Even elderly men and women are served their dishes at a cheaper price specially tailored for them - actually same as the lunch menu fare. The restaurant even offers kids’ menus for as low as •367.

Apart from the wide variety of beef, pork, poultry and vegetables, the Bambohe also serves lots of other oriental specialties like sushi, the culinary flag bearer of Japan. A selection of soups and salads originating from the West is also offered, in combination with carefully chosen fruits at the bar. At lunch and dinner time, customers can also enjoy lots of seasonal greens that come as side dishes or accompany the vegetables.

Additionally, alcoholic beverages and cocktails can be ordered at moderate prices. If you want coffee, then the servants present you with a cup of fresh aroma that they obtain by grinding the beans at the moment of the order.

The Bambohe, which prides itself in having attracted a lot of American clients to date, has made it a principle to offer nothing but fresh meats and vegetables of the season. The proprietors of the restaurant go a long way to insist that freshness is a must, not just an option.

Bambohe is located in the Nigata area of Ginowan City, close to MCAS Futenma. It is open daily for lunch from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and for dinner courses from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. and beyond. For reservations or further information, call (098) 894-0330.

DIRECTIONS: While heading towards Naha on Rte. 330 from Kadena Gate 2 side, stop at the King Taco shop at the Nigata Intersection. The big Bambohe restaurant will be on the left. You can’t miss the signboard.
