Tour Guides Ready to Welcome Summit Participants

Date Posted: 2000-03-05

Sixty six tour guides were handed their diplomas in a ceremony in Nago City Civil Hall, Monday, after completing training for Summit Guide. Nago Mayor Tateo Kishimoto handed the certificates to those who finished the course.

Originally, 130 volunteers started the course in November, but only 66 attended the 15 sessions required to complete the course. The Summit Guides were taught Okinawan history, culture, language, politics, economics, Okinawan basic relations and environmental issues. They are also knowledgeable in topics concerning Nago City.

Those who completed the course have great expectations. “This is a very good opportunity to learn much about Okinawa,” Ayumi Arakaki, one of the just graduated students said at the ceremony. “We have now finished the lessons but our responsibility has only started. We all will do our best to make the Okinawa Summit a great success.”
