Relocation proponent Kishimoto re-elected in Nago mayoral race

Incumbent Nago Mayor Tateo Kishimoto was re-elected on Feb. 3 in the city’s hotly contested mayoral election. The 58-Year-old Kishimoto, who favors relocation of MCAS Futenma to Nago, garnered 20,356 votes. His biggest competitor, relocation opponent Yasuhiro Miyagi, was defeated by a wide margin of 9,208 votes. Kishimoto said that conclusions regarding the relocation process could be drawn from the election results, indicating his intention to proceed by demanding the fulfillment of seven conditions, including a 15-year limit on base use by the U.S. military.
