Whatís Going On Here?

Last week, we published a letter sent by JB, asking for information on possible cheaper tours and how ITT can help.

JB, thank you for your letter. I was also excited at the prospects of traveling throughout Asia upon learning that we'd be PCS'ing to Okinawa. I assumed that EML and Space-Available travel would be my cheap ticket off of the island whenever I wanted to leave. Unfortunately, I was wrong. My family and I tried twice to take flights out of Kadena Air Force Base, during Christmas and this month, and both times we didn't make it. Once, because there were others that were on leave and signed up for the flights before us, and the last time because, for a week and a half, the flights we wanted to get on were either canceled, rerouted, or simply didn't take Space-A passengers.

It was then that we decided that we'd rather be GUARANTEED our flights and travel arrangements because we don't have the LEAVE time to screw around with, and we started looking into international tours offered through ITT, both on Kadena and Camp Foster. Those international group tours are quite pricey, but mostly because of the tremendous air fares and considerably high prices throughout Asia.

After speaking to the ITT staff, I've learned that Omega Travel is the travel business that plans the international tours. If you don't have the funds to take the group tours that they offer, you have the option of going into an Omega Travel office and asking for their help planning a "budget" trip and seeing what they can provide for you. In that way, you can explain what type of hotel you'd like, perhaps even suggesting one outside big city limits so you can escape big city prices. And you can also plan your own agenda.

ITT is here to provide the military community with the best options out there, but they canít make any miracles either. If you don't like what they offer, then ask them to provide something for you that fits your budget and works for you. They should be completely willing to oblige your requests. If you aren't satisfied with their service, then you can make comments and suggestions through higher channels or turn to off base/post travel agencies and see what they can provide.

Hopefully, when someone from the ITT and Omega offices reads your letter, they may realize that there are MANY military families and single military members on this island that would love to take the group tours that they offer - if they do a little more investigating when they plan these trips to offer us lower rates. It would be great if they offered their group tours with the option of "budget" trip rates, wouldn't it?
