Okinawa NGA to build school in Cambodia

Date Posted: 2002-02-07

Okinawa-based nongovernmental organization Asia Child Support has announced plans to construct a school and a well in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Asia Child Support representative Tetsuro Ikema and others entered into an agreement with a local Cambodian contractor on Jan. 27 for construction of the building, scheduled for completion in late May. Costing approximately ・6 million, the school will be a one-story structure with five classrooms. Although the city of Phnom Penh will run the institution, Asia Child Support views the school as an opportunity for exchange between Okinawa and Cambodia. The NGO also hopes to add a vocational school at some point in the future.
