The Dugong Network Okinawa will sponsor a symposium in collaboration with the Worldwide Fund for Nature Japan (WWFJ) this weekend in the cities of Nago and Naha. The Nago symposium will be held on Saturday, February 19th from 1:30 to 5:00 p.m. at the Nago City Central Library, while the Naha City event will be held at Okinawa University, Building No. 3, on Sunday, February 20th during the same time period. Lectures during the double city symposium, “The dugong in a folktale,” will focus on the protection of the dugong in Okinawa. Dugong exhibitions will also be held simultaneously in both cities. For people interested in the wildlife of Okinawa, Romeo Trono, the WWF Vice-President of the Philippines, will bring another perspective when he lecrtures on “The actual situation of Dugong protection in the Philippines.
