Kadena Auto Skills Introduces Vehicle Lockout Program

Date Posted: 2000-02-12

The Kadena Auto Skills Development Center is introducing a new Vehicle Lockout Program effective Tuesday, February 15th. A full staff of Kadena Auto Skills personnel will be available 24 hours a day, on or off base, to assist anyone who should find himself or herself locked out of their car. The service will be offered Islandwide to all SOFA-status persons.

There is a small fee for this new service:
$10 on base during normal duty hours of 8 a.m. - 7 p.m.
$25 off base during normal duty hours of 8 a.m. - 7 p.m.
$25 per hour (minimum 2 hours) after 7 p.m. on or off base.

Kadena Security Police, who previously offered assistance to those locked out of their vehicles on base, no longer provide this service. For those who found themselves locked out of their vehicles while off base, local locksmith businesses were formerly the only choice, with charges running 3,000 to 5,000 during regular business hours. The Auto Skills Center now offers a complete lockout service 24 hours a day, Okinawa-wide and utilizes specialized tools for unlocking numerous makes, models and years of vehicles.

In addition to the Lockout Service, Kadena Auto Skills Center also offers a 24-hour Islandwide Towing service. The numbers for these services are 634-1126, 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. or 090-8833-2797 after hours. A free wallet card with telephone numbers for the Vehicle Lockout Program and Towing Service is available at the Auto Skills Center.
