Japanese PM Receives Nago Mayor in Tokyo

The Mayor of Nago City, Tateo Kishimoto, was in Tokyo on January 20th to meet with Japanís Prime Minister premier Keizo Obuchi. The Mayor was accompanied by local village headmen from Nakijin and Higashi. The officials held their meeting at the Prime Ministerís official residence. According to sources close to Nago City Council, Mayor Kishimoto used the occasion to express his gratitude for the central government's plans for the development of northern Okinawa, which includes Nago City. Kishimoto is particularly thankful to the Government of Japan for the decision to organize this yearís G8 Summit in his city. Henoko, a district of Nago, is also the site designed to host a heliport in replacement of MCAS Futenma. Reports from Tokyo indicate that Prime Minister Obuchi would like to visit Okinawa in order to discuss lots of Summit related issues. While in Tokyo, mayor Kishimoto is said to have also held meetings with Defense Agency Director General Kawara, the ruling LDP Chief Secretary Mori, former Cabinet Chief Secretary Nonaka and other ministers whose departments have a hand in Nago development issues.
