How the G8 Summit Logo Was Created

Date Posted: 2000-02-12

From: Kyushu-Okinawa Summit official website

Entries and Selection:

There were 5,570 entries from across the country last year. This official logo of the Kyushu-Okinawa Summit was selected as a result of careful screening process including the consultation with experts.

Winner:
Name:Mr. Hideyuki Chinen
Address: Okinawa Prefecture
Age: 46
Occupation: Graphic Designer

Design Concept:
Using the sun as a motif I incorporated concepts of brightness, tenderness, broadmindedness, and congeniality into my design. These qualities also serve as images of Kyushu and Okinawa. The central blue circle represents the sea, because Kyushu and Okinawa are shaped by marine culture. The white in the middle represents the letter 'O' for Okinawa, the main Summit venue. The surrounding red circles symbolize the enthusiasm of the participating countries.

Use of the Kyushu-Okinawa Summit Logo:
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs oversees the use of the logo for the Kyushu-Okinawa Summit. If you wish to use the Summit logo, please seek prior authorization from the Ministry.

Authorized use of the logo:
(1) Only organizations associated with the Summit may use the logo.
(2) The logo may be used only on goods and published documents used or furnished for activities and events connected to the Summit.
