STYX Rock Band Coming to Island

Look who's back : STYX! Seemingly, the last band from the 70's that has not undergone any reforms in its popular style, is presently on tour. This is a first since the reunion of its popular lineup in 13 years.

This Chicago based quintet is widely believed to be responsible for the development of the term "pomp-rock" ( pompous, overblown arrangements, with perfect-pitch harmonies and a very effective production). Styx was the first band in rock and roll to achieve the feat of four consecutive triple-platinum albums: Grand Illusion, Pieces of Eight, Cornerstone and Paradise Theater. Over the years, STYX has had numerous hit songs, including "Lady", "Crystal Ball", "Come Sail Away", "Blue Collar Man", "Renegade", The Best Times ", Too Much Time On My Hands" and their number one ballad "Babe".

The great irony about Styx has always been that, even as their records sold out and they filled halls with their concerts, the band was virtually ignored by the rock and roll media, and many times reviled by the critics. Styx certainly did not win its popularity by becoming the darling of the media. Styx found its success the old-fashioned way: by winning fans over one at a time, through the power of their music. So, what contributed to their immense popularity? Catchy melodies, elaborate stage performances, and excellent musicianship, as well as the ability to speak directly to their audience, to relate to working people , share their concerns, and give them hope . For 13 years, Styx fans across the United States and around the world have been wishing that STYX - Dennis De Young (singer/ song writer/key boards), Tommy Shaw ( singer/song writer/guitar), James Young ( singer/song writer/guitar ), Chuck Panozzo (bass) and John Panozzo (drums) will bring back Paradise.

They have awakened the sleeping giant. They had plenty of rest, and they are now up and ready to party. For anyone who has ever seen STYX in concert, it is clear that their arrival on this island will be one of the major musical events of the year. STYX will be performing their reunion album "Brave New world "at the Okinawa City Hall on Tuesday, February 15th. Tickets are available at local Family Mart and Lawson convenient stores, the PM Agency , and at base MWR and USO facilities. Seat prices are fixed at Y5,500.
