Party in pinkDate Posted: 2003-01-31 ![]() Okinawa’s cherry blossoms are in full bloom, and this weekend marks the largest “sakura festival” on the island. The 41st Nago Cherry Blossom Festival is Okinawa’s premier event, running Friday through Sunday as part of the Okinawa Flower Carnival 2003. The festival will feature several events that bring thousands of people flocking to Nago from all parts of the island. Most main events will be held on Nago’s main street, north of the famous “Himpun Kajimaru” banyan tree that is the city’s trademark. Hundreds of food and game booths will line the road leading to steps going to the park surrounding the site where Nago Castle once stood. Nago officials say every festival participant should climb these stairs, pray at the shrine on the top, and enjoy the breathtaking view overlooking Nago Bay. |
