His Dream, My Vision

By: Bryan E. Myers Jr. (Student, Lester Middle School)

Date Posted: 2000-01-28

Martin Luther King Jr. dreamt a dream of unity,
That we would ALL be free.
Free to come, Free to go.
Free to love, Free to grow.
No matter your race, creed or color.
In this world of advanced technology
We have lost sight of each other.
We fight, we steal, we kill.
We donít even bother,
To help our brother man.
To lend an ear.
To lend a hand.
In 1968 that wasnít his plan.
As I enter into this New Millennium
I will be the nest that I can be.
martin had the dream, I have the vision.
Because - I am free.
Free to give, Free to take.
Free to build, Free to break
Down All barriers that are in my way.
I will learn more. I will teach more.
I will give all of me, and not lose sight.
For my vision is clear.
I see laughter, I see tears.
As I struggle to get over the fears
Of our differences and embrace our likeness.
Together we can stop hate, stop war.
Feed the hungry and clothe the poor.
It is not too late... yes!
Martin had the Dream that ended all too soon.
But it has ignited my vision, which is in full bloom.
I have a vision and that vision is clear.
