Illegal Disposition of Industrial Waste Brings Trouble

A man who works for NT Okinawa, an Urasoe-based Industrial Waste Disposal Company, and a representative director of the company, were arrested on Wednesday, January 19th, on the charge of illegal disposal of industrial wastes.

Following an investigation by Itoman City Police, it was revealed that workers of NT Okinawa were ordered by the representative director to dump industrial wastes on a site which used to serve as a quarry in Mabuni, Itoman City.

The suspects’ offense was first discovered by a local resident of the place where the industrial waste was dumped. On January 12th, at 1:15 a.m., the resident called the police to inform them of the illegal disposal he had witnessed. From then, Itoman City Police opened an investigation that led to the arrest and detention of the worker and company representative director.

According to the results of that investigation by Itoman City Police, the suspects had been committing their offense since the end of 1999. The industrial wastes they were dumping illegally include about 20 tons of refuse building materials and scrap iron. Itoman City Police and Okinawa Prefectural Police continued their investigation at the company office and the house of representative director.
