Naha Talent Show Rejuvenates Senoir Citizens

Date Posted: 2000-01-28

The 23rd annual “Naha City Silver Talent Show” took place on Monday, January 17th at the Naha City Hall. The 500 participants that performed during the event were all local senior citizens. The program included traditional folk dancing to “San-shin” (Ryukyu string instrument) music and “Taiko” (Japanese drum) performances. The talent show concluded in a massive “hoe-down” in which the audience got up to join the performers in one last dance. After the event, one 55-year old lady was all beams as she commented, “I came to receive some youth. When I saw the other performers on stage, I forgot how old we were. I guess we’re all still children.”
