Churaumi Aquarium invites use for conferences, tourism, meets

Date Posted: 2012-08-31

Okinawa’s Churaumi Aquarium is getting into the public relations and tourism business, under the term MICE to attract tourists and businesses to the Motobu facility.

MICE denotes meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions, and is targeting large groups of visitors, planned well in advance, to use the first floor of the aquarium, and the adjoining café Ocean Blue. The space in front of The Kuroshio Ocean, the large panorama water tank, can accommodate up to 100 people at one time.

Churaumi officials say they’re ready to execute the MICE program starting October 1st, and will run through the end of February to see how the program works out. The facilities can be used for tourism and conventions on all days the aquarium is open, and also on special days arranged with the northern Okinawa facility. Officials say they’ll make the aquarium available in the evenings, 6:30 p.m. ~ 10:30 p.m., to accommodate the visitors.
