Decomposing body discovered in sunken mini-car in Naha

Date Posted: 2012-08-24

An emergency call reporting “Oil floating on the surface of the sea” brought a fire department rescue team to the site near Tomari Fishing Port in Naha, where they discovered a mini-car was on the ocean floor.

The mini-car was raised about 2:20 p.m. Monday, and recover specialists discovered a decomposed skeleton in the car. Police say the site is close to the ferry pier at Tomari Port. When the body was found in the car, it was sitting on the driver’s seat.

Naha Police say because of the body’s condition, it’s difficult to even determine whether the body is that of a man or a woman. Investigators are now working to identify the body, and to determine when, how and why the car wound up in the water.
