Man brandishing a knife demands media attention

Date Posted: 2012-08-17

A 41-year-old unemployed man is under arrest, charged with both breaking into a building and violating the Firearms and Sword Control Law.

Naha Police say the unidentified man broke into the Work Support Center on the second floor of Naha City Hall Mawashi Branch. He was wielding a knife when he was apprehended. Police say the man showed the knife at the branch office, telling workers “I want to talk about the Takeshima problem. Call mass media.”

Authorities say they’re planning to conduct a careful and thorough investigation to determine whether there was a presence or an absence of criminal responsibility on the part of the man. Police say nobody was injured in the incident.
