Commandant of the Marine Corps visits OkinawaDate Posted: 2012-08-10 ![]() General Amos, the 35th Commandant of the Marine Corps since October 22, 2010, wants to focus on the importance of Marines and sailors deployed here during his visit with the emphasis on the military’s shift in focus to the Asia-Pacific region. The Commandant will place specific emphasis on the role of III MEF Marines in the Asia-Pacific region, the vital importance of the US-Japan Alliance and the significant contributions III MEF/MCIPAC Marines make every day as they prepare for and carry out the operations and exercises within the region. Additionally, Gen. Amos will comment on the strategic importance of the MV-22B Osprey’s deployment to, and basing on, Okinawa. During his visit, the Commandant will be doing an AFN-broadcasted interview on Aug. 11 between 8 and 9 a.m. The interview is broadcast at Wave 89.10 FM or The Surf 648 on the AM frequency. |
