Churaumi Aquarium offers special experience festivalDate Posted: 2012-08-03    Entry to the Saturday event is free, with registration beginning at 9 a.m. for the 10 a.m. ~ 4 p.m. series of projects. Throughout the day a Hawaiian canoe experience will allow 450 people to give it a try on regular canoes, while another 100 get a shot at the Hawaiian canoe. From noon ~ 12:40 p.m. and again 1 p.m. ~ 1:40 p.m., a water shallows exploration is available for the first 80 to sign up. A drive fishing experience is available for 180 people during three presentation periods starting at 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m. Safety lessons about the ocean are being presented to 100 people in two sessions; one begins at 10:30 a.m. and a second at 1:30 p.m. A total of 200 people will have an opportunity to participate in a marine craft making class throughout the day, while anotherr 200 will be introduced to Okinawa fishing implements and accessories making. Churaumi Aquarium will be presenting panel exhibitions of the ocean’s dangerous creatures throughout the day. Events are conducted only in Japanese, and no English-speaking instructors will be available. Adventures continue on Sunday, August 12th at Emerald Beach near the Churaumi Aquarium with a kids’ windsurfing experience from 1 p.m. ~ 4 p.m. Admission’s free, with the first 45 to register being given the opportunity. The event is open only to elementary and junior high school students. On August 18th, and again on August 25th, Emerald Beach will be the setting for a canoe experience program. Registration begins at 9 a.m. for the 10 a.m. ~ 5 p.m. canoe event. A total of 300 people a day will be accommodated. Kids under 9 must be accompanied by an adult, and all must wear clothes that can become wet. |
