Registration for December Naha Marathon starts Monday

Date Posted: 2012-08-03

One of Japan’s premier sports events, the Naha Marathon, is set for December 2nd, and registration begins on Monday.

This year’s limit for the Festival of Sun, Ocean and Joggers will be 25,000, and organizers say they expect the quota to fill very quickly. Registration is ¥5,500 for adults, and ¥4,500 for those under 18 and over 65, and may be accomplished online at http://www.naha-marathon.jp/en/entry/index.html. The Naha Marathon began in 1985 to mark the 25th anniversary of sister-city status between Honolulu and Naha.

The Naha Marathon is a full marathon, 42.195 kilometers long, run across southern Okinawa, with Peace Prayer Memorial Park on the island’s southern tip marking the mid-point. The registration fee includes insurance, the runner’s number and a commemorative tee shirt. Organizers say the race will be run, rain or shine.
