Wine of the WeekDate Posted: 2012-07-20 ![]() The Louis Bernard Cotes du Rhone is an attractive ruby red colour. To the nose, it offers a scent of tart red fruits, such as red currant and red cherry and black pepper. On the palate, this wine has a nice attack, full of fruits, and an ample finish. The varietal that dominates the southern Cotes-du-Rhône is Grenache. Although all wines from this region are blends, it is this particular grape that distinguishes them from wines of other parts of the world. A recommended dish to accompany a Louis Bernard Cotes du Rhone 2010 red wine is Confit de canard with mustard flavour, currently offered at Bistro de la Mer at the Mercure Hotel in Naha City. Duck legs, which are almost always sold as the drumstick with the thigh attached, are cured for up to a day and a half in a mixture of salt and garlic, drawing moisture from the duck and adding flavor. A full glass of the recommended red wine is offered at Bistro de la Mer this week when a patron mentions having seen this Japan Update article. Until July 21st, the restaurant is offering a special price for Louis Bernard Cotes du Rhone 2010, ¥500 per glass instead of ¥750. The Confit de canard with mustard flavor is ¥1,500. |
