JAL teams with Mos to serve rice burgers

Date Posted: 2012-07-13

The battle for airline supremacy appears to be moving from the baggage compartment and overhead bins to the galley, where Japan’s national flag carrier has signed a deal with Mos Food Services to provide a company delicacy on international flights.

Japan Airlines says it’s teamed with Mos to present an Air Mos Rice Burger, an adaptation of MOS Burger’s popular MOS Rice Burger Kinpira, which uses steamed rice patties instead of bread to lock in a generous serving of mixed vegetables and chidken strips. The filling includes burdock, lotus root, carrot, oyster mushrooms, black sesame and Japanese chili pepper, sautéed in a light soy sauce and covered with a sweet miso paste.

The Air Mos Rice Burger is the second specialty food deal between Mos and JAL. The first Air Mos Rice Burger, a variation of the company’s signature teriyaki beef burger, caught the public’s fancy. JAL’s now decided to join forces with a variety of Japanese restaurants and food chains to bring its favorites onboard. JAL is calling the in-flight special meals the AIR SERIES.

The new Air Mos Rice Burgers will be served in Premium Economy and Economy Class during the second meal service, and will be available to First and Executive Class customers anytime during flights as part of the airline’s ‘Anytime You Wish’ service. The service will be offered through August 31st on select flights to Europe and America.
