Delta’s international flights to get in-flight Wi-Fi service

Date Posted: 2012-07-13

Delta Air Lines, which already operates one of the world’s largest Wi-Fi equipped fleets of aircraft if preparing to introduce the service on more than 150 aircraft in its international fleet.

The inflight service already is aboard Delta’s entire fleet of 550 mainline aircraft flying more than 3,000 flights daily. The next generation service extends to Boeing 777, 767, 747, Airbus 330 and transoceanic Boeing 757 aircraft in early 2013. More than 800 Delta Connection regional computer jets serving 400,000 passengers per day are offering Wi-Fi service at altitudes above 10,000 feet.

Delta says international service will use high bandwidth Ku-band capacity satellites to provide global coverage. Airline officials say they’ll ultimately have 1,000 Wi-Fi-equipped planes in its worldwide inventory when the project is completed in 2015.
