Okinawa registers record high temperature

Date Posted: 2012-07-13

Meteorologists give the credit to Pacific high barometric pressure, but Okinawa residents say it was simply ‘mighty fine’ weather that led to new record high temperatures being recorded at 15 locations last Saturday.

Minami Daito Village took the highest record with a 33.3C reading just before 1 p.m., while Naha City thermometers pegged at 33.1C at 2:19 P.M. The temperatures were hot enough that four people were taken to local hospitals because of heatstroke.

A woman in her 30’s complained of nausea and feeling ill about 3 p.m. while working in a vinyl hothouse in the Wauke district of Nakagusuku. She was taken to a hospital. The Okinawa Meteorological Observatory is advising people to pay attention to heatstroke dangers.
