New San-A Convention City opens

Date Posted: 2012-07-07

Okinawa’s newest large scale supermarket and department store under the San-A banner opens today near Okinawa Convention Center and Ginowan Marina.

San-A Convention City is a five-story building with integrated parking for 1,125 cars. With an interior floor space of 18,600 square meters, it’s the fifth largest San-A branch in Okinawa, and houses the first Okinawa branch of Tokyu Hands. The store will have 41 tenants, of which five, including an imported foods shop, “Kaldi Coffee Farm”, are setting up for the first time in Okinawa prefecture.

San-A company says it expects sales of over about ¥7 billion a year, and more than 2 million visitors to the directly managed store. San-A will target tourists, who visit the Convention center from Japan’s mainland and from overseas, and has Chinese and English language signs at the store’s comprehensive information board. In the rest corner for customers, many pictures, including those of world heritage sites in Okinawa are exhibited.

In addition to solar power panels on the rooftop, San-A has put its efforts to energy saving with adoption of a high-efficiency air conditioning system.

The president of San-A, Tessei Uechi says “We will strive for to have this branch make all customers and local residents happy”. Ginowan City Mayor Atsushi Sakima adds “I’m hopeful that the branch will provide strong backing for the evolution of the urban resort area that Ginowan City is striving for.”
