Ryukus Students to Perform “West Side Story”

Date Posted: 2000-01-22

English Major students at the University of the Ryukus will be putting on a stage production of the famous American musical “West Side Story” on Saturday, January 22nd at the Ashibina hall, situated on the 3rd Floor of Korinza Shopping Mall in Okinawa City. Everyone is invited to attend the performance, which will include a full array of songs and dynamic dances to live music.

Sophomore English majors at the University of the Ryukus stage a play every year, and this year’s performance will mark their 16th annual play in English. The entire play, including the music, is constructed and directed by the students themselves. English may not be their native language, and acting may not be their forte; but the students have been rehearsing ardently and face the challenge of pleasing their audiences with a lot of enthusiasm.

Doors for the amorous performance open on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. and the play begins at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are only ¥600 for adults, ¥500 for University students, and ¥350 for High School students and children.

DIRECTIONS: Korinza Shopping Mall is situated close to Kadena Gate 2. Make a left on Rte 23 after going out of Gate 2, and head for Gate 3. The Mall will be the big building at the first traffic light.
