Ryubo products fair introduces shoppers to Okinawa

Date Posted: 2012-06-29

The crossing of cultures in Okinawa through the centuries provides the island prefecture with a mixing pot of local products and food creations, leading Ryubo Department Store in downtown Naha to put together an exhibition just to show off local goods.

The Okinawa Products Exhibition is open now, running through July 2nd, 10:30 a.m. ~ 8 p.m., except 5 p.m. on closing day. The department store has for months been featuring the cultures, foods and crafts of mainland Japanese prefectures and cities, and is asking the question about “How many products do you know about that are made in Okinawa?”

Okay, a couple hints. Taco Rice. Okinawa Soba. Pork cutlets. For the rest, a visit to Ryubo is on your weekend calendar, to see, feel, eat and buy Okinawan products. There will be big items and small, Okinawa soba served by Nakamura Soba of Onna Village, wter melons from Nakijin Village, boiled pork bento boxes from Motobu Town, Hukuyuki pork hot dogs from Naha, Passion Fruit from Nanjo City, Maguro bowls from Naha, and colorful vegetables from Yaese Town.

Ryubo says there will be many vendors and many booths and food stands. Organizers of the products exhibition say “we’re sure there are a lot of products you’ve never seen or eaten before.”
