Five Arrows pick Okinawan in BJL draft second round

Date Posted: 2012-06-29

A 22-year-old Okinawan basketball player has been chosen by the cellar-dwelling Takamatsu Five Arrows in the Basketball Japan League spring draft.

Yukio Kishimoto, a 185-cm guard who played at Meiji University, was picked up by the 2-50 Five Arrows, who had first options in the draft. The expansion Gunma Crane Thunders took Noriyuki Sugasawa as the draft’s first pick, while the Tokyo Cinq Reves, also an expansion squad, grabbed 27-year-old Akihito Inoue, who’s played for the OSG Phoenix, Toyota Motors Alvark, Hitachi Sunrockers and Ledvanga Hokkaido in the country’s other professional league.

The league champion Ryukyu Golden Kings selected guard Narito Namizato to close out the 21-team draft first round. The 22-year-old Namizato played for Okinawa this past season, averaging 11 points and 4.2 assists per game, but had to be drafted after being designated an unprotected player.
